Cesare Magrini began his apprenticeship in the late 1970s with his uncle Primo Contavallai in a town near Bologna. He then worked successively in the workshops of Otello Bignami and Ansaldo Poggi in Bologna, Mario Capicchioni in Rimini and finally Giuseppe Lucci in Rome. Magrini's work is inspired by the great classical Italian violin makers, in particular the masters of the Bolognese and Emilian schools such as Pollastri, Fiorini and Poggi.
