Collin-Mezin was a family of French violin makers who were active in the late 19th and early 20th centuries. The most famous and successful violin maker in the family was Charles-Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin (1841-1923), who was born in Mirecout and began making violins at the age of 14. He initially worked as an assistant to various violin makers before setting up his own business in 1867.
Collin-Mezin was also an avid collector of historical instruments and worked as a restorer, restoring old instruments to their original condition. His son, also named Charles-Jean Baptiste Collin-Mezin (1870-1934), followed in his footsteps and also became a well-known violin maker.
The Collin-Mezin family also made other instruments such as violas and cellos. The instruments made by the Collin-Mezin family are still highly sought after today and are considered some of the finest violin craftsmanship of the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
